Bikes. Trails. Camping. Rampage. Good food. Good people. And a weekend dedicated to getting more veterans on bikes.
MarlandFest is a three-day gathering in honor of Marland Whaley—an avid mountain biker, adventurer, and friend whose love for the trails and the outdoors inspired the people around him.
Hosted at The Property in Victor, Montana, MarlandFest brings people together for a laid-back weekend outside: racing up Fred Burr, riding trails, camping, kids' races, watching Red Bull Rampage, eating pizza, sitting around the fire, and spending time with a community that loves being outside.
More importantly, the weekend supports a cause that carries Marland's spirit forward.
Proceeds from MarlandFest benefit The Marland Whaley Foundation, whose mission is to provide mountain bikes and outdoor recreation opportunities to veterans—helping more veterans experience the freedom, connection, community, and adventure that can come from time spent outside and on two wheels.
You don't have to race to be part of it. Come race, come camp, bring the kids, watch Rampage, cheer people on, or just spend the weekend with us at The Property.
Weekend Schedule
Friday, October 9 | Roll In + Set Up Camp
2:00 PM — Gates Open + Camp Setup
Roll in, find your camping spot, get settled, and spend the afternoon exploring The Property. Walk or ride our private trails, hang out, and get ready for the weekend.
Saturday, October 10 | Bike Day + Rampage
8:00 AM–4:00 PM — Fred Burr Strava Bike Race | 10 Miles Round Trip
Take on Fred Burr in a 10-mile round-trip Strava race. Riders can start anytime during the race window, record their ride on Strava, and make their way up Fred Burr and back down.
No mass start. No elbowing for position. Just you, your bike, the mountain, and the clock.
10:00 AM — Red Bull Rampage Men's Screening | The Property HQ
Grab a spot at The Property HQ, right off the parking lot, and watch the men's Rampage with us.
12:00–1:00 PM — Kids Bike Race at The Property
The little shredders get their turn on the trails at The Property. Kids 17 and under participate free.
5:30 PM — Bike Race Awards
We'll gather to celebrate the day's riders and hand out awards.
Evening — Pizza Feed + Campfire
Stick around after the awards for pizza, good company, and a campfire at The Property's designated fire pit.
The Pizza Feed is $15 per person and includes pizza, salad, and a drink. Please purchase your meal ticket ahead of time so we can plan enough food for everyone.
Sunday, October 11 | Run Day + Women's Rampage
8:00 AM — Breakfast Concessions Open
Grab a muffin, juice, and a little fuel before heading up the mountain.
8:00 AM–4:00 PM — Fred Burr Strava Trail Run | 10 Miles Round Trip
Sunday is for the runners. Take on the same 10-mile round-trip Fred Burr course on foot. Start anytime during the race window, record your run on Strava, and make your way up Fred Burr and back down.
Run it hard, run it steady, or simply see what you've got. You versus the mountain and the clock.
10:00 AM — Red Bull Rampage Women's Screening | The Property HQ
Grab a spot at The Property HQ, right off the parking lot, and watch the women's Rampage with us.
12:00–1:00 PM — Kids Running Race at The Property
A race just for the kids on The Property trails. Kids 17 and under participate free.
5:30 PM — Trail Run Awards
We'll close out the weekend by celebrating Sunday's runners.

Day Pass — $25
Come out for the day and enjoy the activities and Rampage screenings happening at The Property.
One Night Camping + Viewing — $35
Stay one night at The Property and enjoy the weekend's screenings and spectator activities.
Weekend Viewing + Camping — $50
Make a weekend of it. Includes spectator access plus camping Friday and Saturday nights.
Race + Weekend Camping + Screening — $50
Come race and stay for the whole thing. Includes race entry, Friday and Saturday night camping, and Rampage screenings.
Kids 17 + Under — FREE
Bring the family. We want kids outside, riding bikes, running trails, and being part of the weekend.
Saturday Pizza Feed — $15 per person
Includes pizza, salad, and a drink. Please purchase your meal ticket ahead of time so we can make sure there's enough food for everyone.
A Few Things to Know
The Property is 80 acres of off-grid Montana land at 914 Fred Burr Road in Victor, with miles of private trails and access to Fred Burr. Expect dirt, primitive camping, changing weather, and a weekend spent outside.
The Property HQ is located right off the main parking lot and will be home to the Red Bull Rampage screenings and other weekend activities.
Camping at The Property
Camping at The Property is primitive and off-grid. We do not have hookups or facilities to accommodate camper trailers or RVs.
Camping is best suited for tents, trucks with camper shells or truck-bed campers, and camper vans.
October in Montana can bring a little bit of everything. Dress warm, bring layers, and pack clothing and gear for all kinds of weather. Cold nights, rain, wind, or even snow are possible. Come prepared to spend the weekend outside no matter what Montana decides to do.
We have outhouses, but no running water, so please bring enough drinking water for yourself and your crew.
Food + Drinks
We'll have a concessions booth with snacks and drinks available for purchase throughout the weekend, but concessions will not provide full meals.
If you're staying for the weekend, please bring enough solid meals and food to keep yourself and your crew fueled, especially if you're racing.
On Saturday evening, we'll host our Pizza Feed for $15 per person, including pizza, salad, and a drink. Please purchase your meal ticket ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
Fire Rules
We'll have a campfire Saturday evening at The Property's designated fire pit.
To protect the land and keep everyone safe, this is the only location where a fire is permitted. Personal campfires and fires at individual campsites are not allowed anywhere on The Property.

Dawn Whaley: Race Director
My name is Dawn Whaley. I have lived in the Bitterroot Valley since I was 6 years old.
I grew up in Victor with my parents Glenn and Linda and my sister Robin.
I met my prince charming, Marland Whaley in 1999. We dated for almost a year and
were married April 8, 2000. We had so many wonderful adventures: hiking, back packing, rock
climbing, hunting, snowboarding, cross country skiing and our favorite sport, mountain
biking.
Marland and I were married until his death from a heart attack June 27, 2019. He was
the best friend that I have ever known. Since his death I have struggled to find purpose, and
struggled from physical and mental issues due to not only mold in a previous residence, but
also profound grief.
With the help of the Lord, my family and dear friends I now know my purpose. It is to love my
family and friends, be the best dog mom that I can be, and to love and help people.
Sykes Family: Co- Founders
Arthur is a Marine Corps veteran, national champion mountain biker, coach, and welder whose passion is helping others discover confidence through adventure. Katie served in the Montana Army National Guard and is passionate about creating opportunities for families, veterans, and youth to connect through the outdoors.
Together they founded The Property, an outdoor recreation venue dedicated to building community through youth camps, mountain biking, veteran events, and family-friendly adventures. Sykes family believes that nature has a unique way of bringing people together and creating lifelong memories that can change the world, hence why they started The Property.They're excited to host MarlandFest and hope to inspire others to get outside, try something new, and celebrate the community that makes the Bitterroot Valley such a special place.
About Marland Whaley:
Marland Whaley (July 3, 1958 – June 27, 2019) was a legendary cyclist, master craftsman, devoted husband and father, and a mentor whose impact continues to be felt throughout the mountain biking community.
Growing up in Santee, California, Marland developed a lifelong passion for anything on two wheels. Whether on a motorcycle or a mountain bike, he approached every challenge with remarkable skill, determination, and humility. As a motorcycle trials competitor, he became a five-time National Champion, earning victories across the United States and Europe before retiring from competition.
In 1992, Marland made Montana his home, where he built not only a life but a lasting community. He was known for his ability to form genuine friendships that endured for decades, a reflection of his generous spirit and unwavering loyalty.
Beyond racing, Marland was a master carpenter and craftsman who believed in doing things the right way. His attention to detail, patience, and commitment to excellence carried over into every aspect of his life, including his greatest passion—helping others discover the joy of riding. Whether coaching new riders, encouraging racers, or sharing his knowledge on the trail, Marland found fulfillment in seeing others succeed.
Marland was the proud father of two daughters, Kendra and Kiah, and later married Dawn Olbert, with whom he shared countless adventures and a deep love for the outdoors.
Marland passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on June 27, 2019. While his passing left an immeasurable void, his legacy lives on through the people he inspired, the riders he mentored, and the community he helped build.
MarlandFest was created in his honor to celebrate his adventurous spirit, his love of cycling, and his belief that the outdoors have the power to bring people together. Through this event, his passion continues to inspire new generations of riders while supporting causes that reflect the values he lived every day.
One Last Ride.
This photo was taken at Skalkaho Falls during Dawn and Marland's final ride together before Marland passed away. They had no idea it would become one of their last adventures, but it perfectly captures what he loved most—being on two wheels, surrounded by the mountains, and sharing the ride with the people he loved. Every mile we ride, every trail we run, and every story we share helps keep Marland's legacy alive!
